Is being scared of God the same as obedience?
Adoration —> count on —> gesture
' “If you love me, obey my commandments. ' John 14:15
how many people can really say they like to ‘obey’ something or someone? it can be very difficult, especially if you’re the type not to take orders very well. definitely the military or prison is out if that is the case for you.
unfortunately the word obedience gets a bad rap. we take it as having to conform, give up your ‘rights’ or whatever it is because you were told to do so. with it or in doing so, comes the possibility of correction and discipline which is what concerns, frightens people.
what this verse means to me is a bit different - obeying would be done out of reverence and submission to the one we love, not a power trip. because we adore God, we place our confidence in Him, and we move towards Jesus in our step of faith. if we truly believe what the Word says, that God/Jesus loves us, then we in return would love them back.
this is putting love into action. not being scared that if you don’t do this then “X” will happen. it simply comes down to following someone you love and doing what they ask because you know they have your best interest. in this case, Jesus does and He will never leave or forsake us. we have a way better life ahead of us by following what He taught.
dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word, for what Jesus spoke while teaching, giving us instructions that apply just as much now as it did when He was on earth. may our lives be lived out in a manner that does bring you glory, honor, and praise Lord. in Jesus’ mighty name i pray, amen!
