Light and Darkness

you can overcome one with the former, but you cannot do so the other way around…

'When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” ' John 8:12

ever bumped your head, stubbed your toe, bang your knee while fumbling in the dark trying to get to the bathroom or bedroom? i don’t know about you, but i have and it sucks.

as shared in previous devotions, as a child its terrifying because of stories you hear, scary movies you’ve watched, or simply the unknown as you can’t see anything if it’s pitch black. as we get older, even now as a mature adult, i have kicked the crap out of my bedpost, injuring myself, and on top of that losing sleep because it hurts.

it’s only when you or your parents install a hallway, bedroom, or bathroom light that allows you to see where you want to get to that you no longer struggle with that problem. when you really look at your situation, a simple solution (a source of light) to a possibly large problem (you’re not a cat and can’t see if it’s dark) is available if you want, reach for, and follow it. the same applies to our lives (darkness) and can be found in Jesus (light).

how awesome it is to know that when we do accept Jesus as our Savior, we “will never walk in darkness,” and our Lord is the “Light of Life,” forever. i definitely don’t want to keep ‘walking’ into things confused and disoriented because of living in doom and gloom. it is always comforting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, knowing you have a way out, and all you have to do is fix your eyes that direction. let’s remind each other to keep our focus and attention on The Lord, that He is always there with and for us.

thank you Father God for providing your Son, Jesus, to be the light of the world. in this world where darkness exists and would soon swallow us up in its corrupt and vileness, you have shown us the way through Him. also, Your Word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path (psalm 119:105). so grateful for not letting me continue to walk aimlessly. continue to lead and guide my family as you see fit Lord. in Jesus’ name i pray, amne!
