Whose glory do you seek?
for yourself, or for God…
'Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him. ' John 7:17-18
this one can sting if you really look at your motives to why you share of who God is and what He has done in your life. do we speak only to talk about ourselves - i lost this or that, i used to do this or that too, i struggled more than anyone else, etc. are you truly interested in sharing ‘The Gospel’, the Good News, The Truth, or is it really to talk about what was going on in your life and how you need to be the center of attention? or, are you trying to one up someone when they tell their story because you still have a victim-mindset or you need the attention?
just as it is important for others, we need to seek Him first. asking, through prayer, what His Will, His Way, and that you can be used for Kingdom purposes, all to the glory and honor of our Heavenly Father. once we learn to take the focus off of us and to share Jesus with whomever, we can help them move from victim to conqueror - as they begin to see the truth that is in Him, not me/us.
Father God, help me to be focused on what your will is and not mine. to take away the selfish desire to tell others of what was going on with my life when you weren’t in it, rather than sharing of who you are and what you did with my life afterwards. may the truth that has set me free, be found and seen in my walk and talk. to you all the glory and honor be. in Jesus’ name i pray, amen!
