Ever wonder why ‘bad’ things happen to you?
maybe it really isn’t what you’ve done…
'As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing. ' John 9:1-3,6-7
i know it probably sounds weird to say you have a favorite scripture or verse because this is from the Word of God, and i suppose we should say all of it is our favorite. well, i do and this is one of them. why you ask - this is where i can rest on the fact that even when something bad happens or cannot be explained, i know that it will showcase God’s workmanship and His glory would be shown through whatever i’m dealing with.
in this instance Jesus was asked if the man or his parents’ sin were the cause of his blindness. so comforting to hear His response that it was not. how many times have you and i have blamed ourselves for the things of our past for our problems, our struggle, our failures because of it when it might not have been. don’t get me wrong, i have sinned greatly, paid the consequences for those actions, and this is an entirely different conversation - when what we go through (trials), and how we come out of it, is to effectively bring honor and praise to our King.
though the blind man had to go through life with such difficulty, once the right time came along, Jesus healed the man, bringing redemption to him and his parents (who likely were made to believe they were sinners), and so that God would be glorified and magnified.
over time i was able to look deeply if whatever i was dealing with was from my attitude, actions, and words, or a combination of the 3. should it be neither, then i would chalked it up to God allowing me to learn and grow from those experiences, and one day i will know why i had to go through it. preparation and suffering is not always fun; it is key to maturing though.
dear Heavenly Father, thank you that i can see your hands of covering on my and my family’s life. it isn’t always fun to deal with the trials of life. i am grateful that you are always with us and that we just need to stand firm, endure, and trust that you have something better in store for us - even when we don’t fully know why or are given the answer right now. i love you, we love you, in Jesus’ mighty name i pray, amen!
