The Cloud Above the Tabernacle…

15 On the day the tabernacle, the tent of the covenant law, was set up, the cloud covered it. From evening till morning the cloud above the tabernacle looked like fire. 16 That is how it continued to be; the cloud covered it, and at night it looked like fire. 17 Whenever the cloud lifted from above the tent, the Israelites set out; wherever the cloud settled, the Israelites encamped. 18 At the Lord’s command the Israelites set out, and at his command they encamped. As long as the cloud stayed over the tabernacle, they remained in camp. 19 When the cloud remained over the tabernacle a long time, the Israelites obeyed the Lord’s order and did not set out. 20 Sometimes the cloud was over the tabernacle only a few days; at the Lord’s command they would encamp, and then at his command they would set out. 21 Sometimes the cloud stayed only from evening till morning, and when it lifted in the morning, they set out. Whether by day or by night, whenever the cloud lifted, they set out. 22 Whether the cloud stayed over the tabernacle for two days or a month or a year, the Israelites would remain in camp and not set out; but when it lifted, they would set out. 23 At the Lord’s command they encamped, and at the Lord’s command they set out. They obeyed the Lord’s order, in accordance with his command through Moses. ~numbers 9:15-23~

here you had a cloud that covered your tent (home, place you live) that look like fire at night; what a sight to behold. how can you not be mesmerized nor truly convinced that The God of Heaven and Earth was with you. when it stayed, the people did the same; when it moved, they did too.

i’ve written in the past where i, too, wish i had a clear sign like this to follow. some my say it is because of unbelief, perhaps they’re right, but mainly because i want to be faithful and know that the direction i’m heading is truly from The Lord. i don’t want to go somewhere i’m not supposed to, entering a place that wasn’t for me to be, taking hold of something that isn’t mine, etc.

how awesome to know that The Lord does go before us, even stays where we are, both if we really listen and obey His commands. all He is asking for is submission to His Will, His way, and not to do things on our own. in the past, this was one of my achilles’ heel - the inability to follow instructions, accurately and willingly.

Father God, thank you for always being there for us, me and my family, and help me to recognize when you are asking me to stay put and when to get up and go. teach us to follow you and to do so correctly. i humbly ask for your help in this area of our lives. in Jesus’ name i pray, amen!
