About
It all started when…
'Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. ' Romans 4:18-21
below is a quote that i’ve heard by various pastors and speakers regarding “hope” that i like though i don’t know who said it first:
It’s been said that a person can live forty days without food, four days without water, four minutes without air, but only four seconds without hope.
abraham, despite realizing his and his wife’s “biological” hurdles for having kids, he refused to stop believing that God can do whatever He wants on His time, especially when He’s already spoken it over you/us or into existence. although sara laughed it off when told they would have a child, abraham believed for both of them.
the part that gets me are verses 20 & 21. if we fast forward now to the 21st century and medical advancements, no one would be ‘shocked’ or ‘disappointed’ if you or i accepted that we wouldn’t be able to have kids if we were 80-100+ years old. in 20, it says abraham did not waiver through unbelief, and in 21 he was fully persuaded. how do you do that as your life is “technically” on the latter half, really at the end of the time spectrum. when what you really wanted hasn’t happened to date, how do you stay optimistic and hopeful that it can.
i do believe, have hope, walk in faith, though i admit there are times that thoughts do pop into my head causing me to waiver momentarily or even a bit. certainly can work on this area of my life for sure as i’m nowhere near how abraham lived.
the portion that i have to apply into my life regarding hope is found in verse 19 - “Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead”: abraham recognized the frailty and limits to our bodies, our lives - in this scenario, to have children. that on our own we cannot do it if we are passed our “prime”. only way is if God steps in and allows it to happen. with his belief that Word of God cannot return void, abraham would eventually be blessed with a son and become the father of nations according to God’s promise to him.
what i would like to continue working on is knowing and believing the truths and promises given over the course of thousands of years to God’s chosen people, that i am, we are, included and it still applies today for all of us if we know His Son, Jesus, as our personal Lord and Savior.
dear Heavenly Father, help me when there are doubts and fears that creep into my life that distract me from the truth of your Word, believing in your promises, instructing me what i should do, where i should go, what you have in store for me, and more. may my walk and talk be in alignment with you Lord and that i do not lose hope in you for even a second. i love you so much for helping along my journey of life. in your beautiful and glorious name, Jesus, i pray. amen!
