Wisdom and Correction

go hand in hand…

'Whoever heeds life-giving correction will be at home among the wise. Those who disregard discipline despise themselves, but the one who heeds correction gains understanding. Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the Lord , and humility comes before honor.' Proverbs 15:31-33

needed a little more insight and help for these verses:

the message (version) - listen to good advice if you want to live well, an honored guest among wise men and women. an undisciplined, self-willed life is puny; an obedient, God-willed life is spacious. fear-of-God is a school in skilled living - first you learn humility, then you experience glory.

Matthew Henry's Commentary on Proverbs 15:31-33

31: Faithful, friendly reproofs help spiritual life, and lead to eternal life.

32: Sinners undervalue their own souls; therefore they prefer the body before the soul, and wrong the soul to please the body.

33: The fear of the Lord will dispose us to search the Scriptures with reverence; and it will cause us to follow the leadings of the Holy Spirit. While we humbly place all our dependence on the grace of God, we are exalted in the righteousness of Christ.

want to become wise, first step is to head correction (be willing to learn from your mistakes); understanding really comes from learning from those mistakes (you need discipline to continue gaining more); 1st bit of instruction is to fear The Lord (to be in awe and have reverence for), and after that you humble yourself before Him and in due time He will lift you up (shining His light upon you in all circumstances).

always be open to instruction, criticism (if constructive), even correction (when you’re wrong), as this will only make you stronger. may not be pleasant when you’re going through it because you not feeling it, but it will only make you a better person.

Father God, thank you for the times that i made mistakes, was wrong, stubborn, and prideful that you stopped me in my tracks and corrected me. without it, i wouldn’t be able to see how bad i was nor my need for you, Lord Jesus. continue to do that so i can and will gain wisdom, allowing me to make better decisions each and every day. to you goes all the glory, honor, and praise, amen!
