The Importance of Knowing The Word of God
you just never know when you’re going to need it…
4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. this comes from deuteronomy 8:3
7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test. this comes from deuteronomy 6:16
10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only. this comes from deuteronomy 6:13
Jesus is The Word of God, previously in living flesh, and He lived out His life that way because He actually knew The Word. in a time where all others would break, being tempted while you are starving and thirsty, Jesus responded to the devil with what The Bible instructs us - that the weapon we use to fight evil, sin, and temptation is The Word.
this is a constant reminder that we need to not only read it or listen intently when it’s being recited for us on our mobile device or computer, we need to implant it into our hearts and minds, so that wherever we go and in whatever situation we are in, we have the ability to combat our issues and challenges with The Word of God.
i’m nowhere near the comprehension and retention that i want to be at. people that i hear of or heard from that can recite scripture partly makes me feel bad that i’m not where i want or should be in my walk and relationship with God, and at the same time i’m equally determined to work harder in this area because of how important it is in our relationship with The Lord.
while i do read and/or listen to The Word or a podcast about The Word daily, i’m not always able to recite where specific passages are when i need it or that others could benefit from hearing it if i was able to properly share. what is helping me is doing these devotions online because i’m trying to associate what i read, to what i’m learning from it, then to put it down on ‘paper’ so that i have a positive association, hoping it will increase my memorization. at the same time when i’m able to put it down in writing i may be helping someone else who reads it.
thank you Father God for your Word. please imprint it on my heart and allow it to be immersed in my brains that i can recall it when in need for myself, family, or to share your Word with others. in your glorious name i pray Lord Jesus, amen!
