Dangers of Looking Around

Keep your eyes on the straight and narrow road

'Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.' Proverbs 4:25-27

while i may not have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, i feel that i have some of the symptoms though to a lesser degree. my mind often wander offs from what i was doing, which probably is caused by my eyes that look off when bored, distracted, frustrated, or tempted. instead of being more focused, i often allow myself to drift off.

often in the Bible when something is said twice it is for you to pay twice the amount of attention on it. here, it tells me to look straight - not to the left or right - and stay on the ‘straight’ path that God has made for me to walk on.

similarly we have matthew 7:13-14:

13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

like many, you can choose the wide, winding road with enticements along the way that causes you to sin and do evil stuff, eventually taking you down; or, you can take the ‘road less traveled’ - safe and narrow path - that leads you to Jesus and eternal life.

i must plant God’s Words on my heart that i will have the instructions of life with me everywhere i go; in all decisions i make; when i’m confused, struggling, or when things aren’t going the way i had hoped or planned for; times when temptations are present. to call on the presence of Jesus, and for the Holy Spirit to fill me so that i will have blinders on and stay the course.

dear Heavenly Father, thank you for always being there for my family and i. may your Word continue to be that lamp unto my feet and light unto my path. Holy Spirit, keep me from wandering off and to stay focused, being vigilant so that i may not sin against you O Lord My God. Jesus, i want all of you - that your presence would be felt and that my family and i would look more and more like you each and every day. may i/we look to no one and nothing else to try and fulfill me/us as only you offer what is best. in your Holy and Precious Name i pray, amen!
