be excellent in all that you do

'Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. ' Colossians 3:23

in the past my motive to working was only to make money, a much of it as possible, regardless of the consequences - to myself, my family, and those around me. it was never for Kingdom purposes, it was for selfish motives: wanting the nice house, cars, clothing, jewelry, you name it, i wanted it.

while i strove to get these things, i can’t say i worked until the Lord - that i did so with the intent and purpose to bring glory, honor, and praise to our Heavenly Father.

in this passage, it breaks it down simply that in everything that we do, treat whatever that work is as the Lord is our boss, the owner of the company, our best customer, and be excellent at it. knowing who He is, we should demand out of ourselves to give it our all.

this changes the dynamics because we may think we only work for a company for that paycheck, but in reality we work as a form of worship - to bring praise to our King. when we do so, others who see it may be compelled to know why we are going above and beyond, taking the time to listen, demonstrating your ability to care, and show a high degree of professionalism. it is because we serve the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

thank you Heavenly Father. that i get to serve those that you have placed in my life - at home, at work, at church, in the community, and may i always do my best and also in a manner that reflects everything that you are Lord Jesus. may you receive all the glory and honor when i do so. in Jesus’ mighty name i pray, amen!
