Jesus - Covenants and Forgiveness

hebrews 8:12-13

S - 12 And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins.” 13 When God speaks of a “new” covenant, it means he has made the first one obsolete. It is now out of date and will soon disappear.

O - 1) in the old covenant, the Lord actually led the israelites out of trouble, out of the land of egypt where they were being oppressed, yet because the people were unfaithful, He turned His back on them.

imagine that your dad came to save your sorry behind because you were in deep doodoo, asks you simply to follow ‘a few rules and guidelines’ so you can stay on track, and also to show gratitude to the one who got you out of trouble, only for you to break his heart doing the opposite of that.

sounds pretty stupid huh? though this is not too far from the truth for many of us. in this case, i will speak for myself and say that i have many times.

2) with the new covenant, the old one is gone forever. He says he no longer remembers them. how many of us can actually say the same when someone wrongs them or people they love/care about? this is a hard thing for anyone to do if they don’t understand the new covenant and the love that our Lord Jesus and Heavenly Father has for us.

A - as the saying goes, out with the old and in with the new. may not be the best analogy and am using it because i’m dealing with it now:

old shoes - i keep wearing it because i am unwilling to change it; in decent shape and still rather good, with the only problem is that it is hurting my feet, causing problems with my walk and health.

new shoes - wider, more comfortable, better for my health long-term. i know if i simply get a new pair it will help and once i throw them away i won’t have to think about it any longer.

P - dear Heavenly Father, thank you very much for your Son, Jesus, who fulfilled and is the new covenant to which our lives are built on - forgiveness, mercy, and grace. without this covenant we would simply be dead men walking. we love you, i love you, in Jesus’ name i pray, amen!
