Should you do good or nothing?
when is the right time to do what is best for someone…
'Jesus went into the synagogue again and noticed a man with a deformed hand. Since it was the Sabbath, Jesus’ enemies watched him closely. If he healed the man’s hand, they planned to accuse him of working on the Sabbath. Jesus said to the man with the deformed hand, “Come and stand in front of everyone.” Then he turned to his critics and asked, “Does the law permit good deeds on the Sabbath, or is it a day for doing evil? Is this a day to save life or to destroy it?” But they wouldn’t answer him. He looked around at them angrily and was deeply saddened by their hard hearts. Then he said to the man, “Hold out your hand.” So the man held out his hand, and it was restored! ' Mark 3:1-5
do you ever have to think when to do what is right or good? if so, i think that’s kind of odd if you are a Christian, or at least that you profess to follow Jesus. because of their religiosity, those who hated Jesus waited until He broke ‘their’ laws or at least what they believed to be right for them to have their “gotcha” moment.
when Jesus asked His enemies about doing good or evil on the Sabbath, they wouldn’t say anything. how crazy to think that you have the opportunity to make a difference, change someone’s life, and they wouldn’t budge. some may say it was because that is how they were brought up or only way they knew because of the rules/laws they were raised with.
as a child you generally don’t have a choice other than to do whatever your parents or guardians tell you to. on the other hand, in this passage it was likely adults and they have a choice to change as they grew up. if what you thought was right is actually wrong, it is for you to make the decision to go the right way.
our Lord was so disappointed, angry, and sad, for their hardened hearts. how about when He sees me, sees us…. does He have anything to worry about?
as Jesus saw firsthand how people can be, He healed the man because He had compassion on him, demonstrated true love without concern of the ‘consequences’ of man. i just want to make sure that i don’t have to think twice when doing what is good, what is right in all areas of my life and for whomever needs it.
Father God, if i ever have to consider doing what is right, what is good, please exam my heart and help me to make the proper changes to follow our Lord’s example. may you be glorified in all that i do. in Jesus’ name i pray, amen!
